How to Design Your Home Like a Hotel Room, According to a Hotel Editor
As someone who spends a lot of time in hotels, I can say with certainty that most rooms in my home—especially my bedroom—are influenced by elements from places I've stayed in and loved. As a part of our August digital issue, we're sharing some of the best places to shop for hotel products that you can incorporate into your home design. But even if you're not buying items from a specific hotel brand, there are plenty of ways to bring the hotel experience home with you.

I tend to keep postcards and pens from hotels. The postcards I'll sometimes frame (my favorites are from different Mandarin Oriental properties and Raffles Singapore), and the pencils I keep on my desk and around the house. I've been collecting hotel key cards for years and plan to make them into a framed collage, too. My favorite piece from a hotel is a pair of stunning paper fans from Hoshinoya Tokyo that I have above my bed. That was a bedroom where I've drawn a lot of inspiration from (low bed, natural woods, soft light). Candles and scent diffusers are a must, whether you're buying them from a brand like Edition or Aesop, or just seeking out products that remind you of a particular destination (this Venus et Fleur is my current favorite, it reminds me of Paris).

As far as linens go, prioritize light colors and soft (think silk or sateen), lightweight sheets. If you have natural light in your space, that's a plus, but if not, the light hues with little accents will really make a room feel fresh. Mirrors can help with this, too, and avoiding clutter always helps. I have a super soft robe that I keep hanging on my bed, which always makes me feel a little fancy when I'm at home. Also, fresh flowers and greenery go a long way!

Don't shy away from hotel-inspired rituals, as well. Think warm washcloths over your face before bed; ice water with garnishes like mint, lemon, or cucumber; and long baths with bubbles and fragrant salts.
