TripSavvy Is Celebrating Food and Drink in September

Many of my favorite travel memories have some connection to food. A sourdough bread bowl of clam chowder somewhere outside San Francisco, savory street crêpes in Paris, Indian food in London—all stand out in my memory when I think of those trips. This is due, in part, to the fact that I just really enjoy eating, but also because of my conviction that food is one of the easiest ways to learn about a culture. From the spices used and kinds of protein mixed in, to who typically does the cooking, to the preparation methods and plating preferences, cuisine tells a story that many don't actively think about when digging into a meal. Learning about different cultures through food is one of the main reasons I love to travel so much.

My wanderings around the world have led me to street food carts, Michelin-starred restaurants, food halls, and cozy diners. I've had the pleasure of learning about the origins of ropa vieja while sitting at a paladar in Havana. I spent two glorious hours learning about the origins and fermentation methods of tea in the Twinings London flagship store. I went on two week-long trips to South Korea in the span of six months. Why? Well, because there were still a bunch of restaurants I had yet to try.
