You already have brown fat in your body. Unlike white fat, which stores energy, brown fat burns calories to produce heat—making it metabolically active and protective. The new study published in Aging suggests brown fat may also play a role in extending lifespan. In a recent mouse study, animals with enhanced brown fat lived 20% longer and had 30% better exercise performance compared to normal mice. When brown fat from these long-lived mice was transplanted into others, it boosted blood flow and performance within days, even helping build more blood vessels in muscle tissue. A new analysis published in Nature Aging offers fresh insight. Researchers followed 777 older adults for 3 years to explore how three simple interventions—omega-3 supplements, vitamin D, and exercise—might slow biological aging. They used DNA methylation clocks like PhenoAge, DunedinPACE, GrimAge2 (tools that estimate your biological age based on gene expression patterns), and the results are compelling.
