The inaugural trip will take passengers from Spain to France
Destination of the Day
Burlington, Vermont
With Amtrak having recently relaunched its New York to Burlington route, we currently have our eyes set on the Green Mountain State. Sitting on the shores of Lake Champlain, Vermont's largest city almost feels more like a resort town than anything else. Adventure lovers and casual travelers will find something to suit their interests. Start your trip by biking along the waterfront, embarking on a boat tour of the lake, or hitting up the Lake Champlain Islands. Then, check out the scene at Church Street Marketplace, where 150 retailers and restaurants provide goods, grub, and lively entertainment. And, snow bunnies will pleased to know that Burlington is just a short drive away from the state's premier mountains for skiing.
Your Packing List
Fall is quickly approaching, so prepare to layer up by packing T-shirts, button-down overshirts, sweaters and sweatshirts, and a fleece jacket.
Burlington and its surrounding area offer plenty of things to do for the outdoorsy traveler, so bring activewear for kayaking, biking, and hiking if that's your thing.
If Burlington is a jumping off point for a Vermont ski trip, plan to pack thermal underwear, gloves, and long-sleeve moisture wicking tops. Unless you're planning to rent gear, you'll also want to bring skis, boots, and poles.
Thanks to its unique limestone landscape, Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula is home to some incredibly interesting geological features. Not the least of these are the cenotes, which are underground pools of water that number in the hundreds. Once thought to be the gateway to the underworld by the Mayan civilization, these subterranean waterways are an exhilarating place to go for a swim. The water itself is cool, crystal clear, and inviting, while the underground chambers that surround them range from intriguing to eerie. Either way, it is an experience that can't be beaten.
