Preventing Total Collapse You see, the entire Texas electrical grid had actually come within minutes of collapsing completely. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas, the state's grid operator, testified that the grid was just 4 minutes and 37 seconds away from total failure... which would have left parts of Texas dark for months. Now, Texas did have its share of industrial battery banks. As you would expect, these were meant to protect the state from this exact kind of crisis. For a while, those systems did their job.
